SCRAPPY FASHION - Recycled Costume Competition

As I said from the beginning, we at ZPS have recycling close to our heart. So to stir up the creativity from the students and their parents we decided to make it more challenging by turning it into a costume competition. Scrappy Fashion was the theme of our recycling competition to give wider options for the students and their parents when deciding on what costume to make. A week prior to the competition, I showed each class a power point presentation on different recycled costumes and we discussed options and ideas. Materials that can be used and tips on how to make or assemble their costumes. It was a gruelling week of gathering materials and preparations. I had my share of late nights to make my son's costume, too.

Finally, the big day came... ZPS was bustling with activity on the morning of October 20,2011. Parents were invited to help their children and watch the program. Miss Shamida handled the comparing and I took center stage to host and describe the costumes to the judges. We had 3 batches of contestants starting with Grade 1&2, Grade 3-6 and ending with Kindergarten. It was a total Blast! The array of costumes was unbelievable! We truly have a lot of fantastic students and parents whose creativity was totally...awesome!
